Jerry Uht Park

The Erie SeaWolves have called Jerry Uht Park (map and directions) their home since 1995 when professional, affiliated baseball returned to Erie.

After years of planning for a new ballpark, "The Uht" opened its gates on June 20, 1995. The Inaugural game pitted the SeaWolves, Class-A Short Season Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, against the Jamestown Jammers, who at the time, were an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.

6,300 fans packed the new, crown jewel of downtown Erie for the inaugural game and saw future Major Leaguer Jose Guillen lead off and hit the game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Baseball was back in Erie and it was here to stay.

The team remained a New York-Penn league affiliate with the Pirates from 1995-1998. In those four NYPL seasons, over 750,000 fans packed the "Uht" to see the Pirates of tomorrow.

In 1999, Double-A baseball came to town in the form of the Anaheim Angels as a member of the Eastern League. The first game was played on April 12, 1999 in front of 5,195 fans. The first hit was collected by future big leaguer Trent Durrington when he singled to left field. The team finished the season with a record of 81-61 and were crowned Southern Division Champions.

The SeaWolves remained an Anaheim affiliate for two seasons, and in 2001, a different American League team joined affiliation with Erie...The Detroit Tigers.

The 2001 season marked an all-time high in attendance at Jerry Uht Park with over 246,000 fans coming through the turnstiles. That season, the SeaWolves finished with their best regular season record to date with 84 wins and just 58 losses to win the EL Southern Division. However, like in 1999, the team could not get passed the first round of the playoffs.

The 2007 season saw the SeaWolves win the regular seasons Southern Division title on the last day of the season and averaged more than 3,600 fans per game. It was the highest per-game average since the arrival of Double-A baseball!

In 2006, the biggest renovation project in Jerry Uht Park history began. As a part of the $4 million project, two new exciting features were added to "the Uht". The first was a brand-new, state-of-the-art video scoreboard located in rightfield. An additional scoreboard was added to the Tullio Arena which measures 40-feet across and provides fans with out-of-town scores, Tigers updates, player stats, and more.

The new video scoreboard allows fans to see instant super-slow-motion replays, cable television, movies, player headshots, action introductions, interviews with players, interactive contests and can even see themselves on the numerous "cams" that feature Erie's fans!

The second addition to the Jerry Uht Park improvements was a two-level picnic area known as "The Gardens" located down the right field line. The Troyer Farms Picnic Garden features two levels of picnic tables with a fully-functional concession area. The area allows fans a different view of the game than the traditional picnic area which is located down the left field line.

Fans Enjoying the New Bud Light Beer Garden

The upper level, The Bud Light Beer Garden, features 11 "Club Seat" boxes. Fans will have the option to book private, open-air boxes for the game with accomodations for up to 16 people. The NEW Bud Light Beer Garden also features concessions and additional viewing areas for games.

2008 will mark the 14th season of SeaWolves baseball at Jerry Uht Park, and the eighth year as a Detroit Tigers affiliate. Jerry Uht Park hosts great professional baseball events with world class athletes, family-oriented entertainment, terrific food options, unique amenities, a Fun Zone for kids, and lots more! We'll see you....at the Uht!
