SeaWolves Fall In Shortened Game
Rain Sends 'Wolves home with a loss.
The SeaWolves fell in a rain-shortened game on Wednesday night to the Trenton Thunder, 6-0 at Jerry Uht Park. The loss for the ‘Wolves was their third consecutive loss.
The shutout was the first of the season tossed against the SeaWolves.
Trenton got on the board in the top of the first inning. Austin Jackson tripled with one out and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Colin Curtis for a 1-0 Thunder lead against Erie starter Danny Christensen.
In the top of the fourth inning, Chris Malec reached on a fielder’s choice and Carlos Mendoza singled to put two on for the ninth hitter in the Trenton lineup Reegie Corona. Corona tripled to the wall in right, plating two more runs for a 3-0 lead.
Trenton continued their offensive output in the top of the fifth. Jackson led off with a walk and Edwar Gonzalez connected on his first home run of the season. The solo shot put the Thunder ahead 5-0.
The Thunder would add a sixth run in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Ramiro Pena, scoring Mendoza. That play would be the final of the game. The umpires called for the tarp because of rain and after an hour and 33-minute rain delay, the game became final.
Trenton starter Phil Coke shut the SeaWolves for five innings allowing just four hits. He struck out seven with no walks in picking up his second win of the season.
Christensen (0-4) took the loss for the ‘Wolves. He allowed six runs, five earned, on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work. Christensen walked three and struck out a pair.
